 Wheelchair Basketball Season is Extended! 

 

SUPPORT SEATTLE ADAPTIVE SPORTS

 on Wednesday, April 18th for a fundraiser
 with Mercer Island High School
 
Mercer Island Fundraiser

 

Seattle Jr Sonics and Seattle Slick will be playing a game of wheelchair basketball with the teachers at Mercer Island High School. The Mercer Trade Inc class as a class project are bringing awareness of our athletes and have procured donations for a wonderful auction during the evening activities.
 

 

 

 

For tickets purchased before the evening event will be entered into a drawing for a FREE IPAD. Tickets are $5 pre-sale, $7 at the dooor. Email us at info@seattleadaptivesports.org for your tickets.

Wheelchair Basketball Practice Schedule:

Tuesday evenings 6-8:30pm

The Seattle Slick Division III adult wheelchair basketball team goes to the NWBA National Champions and competed well among the 24 Division III teams that quSeattle Slick at the NWBA Nationalsalified for this competition from around the country. Over 80 teams within 5 divisions of wheelchair basketball with the National Wheelchair Basketball Association came together at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO the week of March 22 - 25, 2012. Here these amazing athletes played hard for the honor of being the best in their division. Visit www.nwba.com for video and compete details of the final results.

 

Truman Walker
Congratulations to Truman Walker our high school senior off to college. Accepted to 2 Engineering schools - the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois, as well he will be participating in basketball and track/field with these colleges. A big decision to make! Truman will be off to the US Paralympic Track/Field Trials in June. We wish him the best in his future adventures.

 

Upcoming events:

May 5-6,Seattle Slick heads to an Elite Basketball Tournament in Canada with teams from British Columbia Provinces.

June 30-July 1, Hoopfest in Spokane. The largest 3-on-3 basketball competition in the street competition in the country. The teams are forming now and registration is due on line by May 1st. Junior teams will be formed and registered separately.

July 28-29, Showare 3-on-3 Shootout in Kent is a fun local tournament. Registration is open.

August 18-19, Hoops on the River 3-on-3 competition is a fun weekend of basketball with our Oregon friends.

August 25, come show off with 3-on-3 games at the Seattle Parks Healthy Parks/Healthy You event at Magnuson Park.

 

Plans are underway to have an adult basketball camp this summer. Top coaches will be on hand to teach skills and train local team coaches. Dribble on Wheels basketball camp for youth and adults will take place in September. Watch for dates to be announced on both of these events.

 

 

Other Programs:

 

Sled Hockey

By popular demand, coming to the Seattle area is Sled Hockey. This exciting sport will begin soon with a sports clinicSled Hockey youth & adults to introduce the sport to youth and adults interested in learning more. Teams will be formed with plans for competition with West Coast teams. Seattle Adaptive Sports is in the process of purchasing equipment and locating coaches. Please contact us at info@seattleadaptivesports.org if interested in attending a clinic, volunteering as support staff or coaching. 

 

Sitting Volleyball 

A couple of sitting volleyball clinics took place over the past year and grew interest to start a team. ThankSitting Volleyball you to Shoreline CC volleyball coach, Mark West for offering to coach a team. 

Come out to support our athlete Sam Surowiec as he trains to help the US National team qualify for the London 2012 Paralympics. This sport is open to physical disabled (popular amputee sport) and able-bodied individuals.

Power Soccer

Seattle Adaptive Sports is very interested in supportinPower Soccerg the powerchair users in the Seattle area and northend. We are looking for a coach and support staff to help support this sport. If you are interested in participating on a team or volunteering with coaching, please contact us at info@seattleadaptivesports.org    

 

 

 

 

Seattle Adaptive Sports Experience 

 
Our monthly sports clinics, held the second Saturday of each month, offer hands on and demonstrations in various adaptive sports offered in the Seattle area. Plan to stop in from 1-3pm, followed by The CREW youth social 3-5pm. Each month will feature a different sport that you can come check out.

The CREW Youth Social  

The CREW Youth Socials are open to youth and young adults to come hang out in our mentoring program. Supervision is provided by Camp Casey counselors. Organizers: Brian and Cassie Hurley. Sponsored by Seattle Adaptive Sports, the Spina Bifida Association of Washington and the Kiwanis Camp Casey Foundation. The CREW Youth Social will take place the second Saturday of each month from 3-5pm, following the Seattle Adaptive Sports Experience clinics. What a great time to have your parents go off shopping or into Seattle for some fun, while you have some of your own with friends....games, food and laughter
