Brooklyn Autism Center Newsletter August 2010
Greetings!

We hope everyone has an enjoyable few weeks off this month, and safe travels for those who are traveling! When school starts up again in September, there will be a lot of exciting happenings at the BAC:

  • We are in talks with Super Soccer Stars to potentially add a day of soccer lessons after school for BAC students. We will keep you all updated about this when we have more information.

  • BAC Friends, our free, twice-a-week, after-school peer socialization program will resume on September 21st. BAC instructors Joe and Lhea will continue to plan fun, educational activities for BAC students and typical peer volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 - 4:30 pm.

  • Our summer volunteer program was a big hit this summer with our wonderful volunteers from St. Ann's and other neighborhood schools. The volunteers were so helpful, taking on tasks from helping to collect data to making play-dough. We are expanding our opportunities high and middle school students to volunteer this school year.

Parent Coffee Chat and Yahoo Group
Thanks to everyone who was able to come in for this month's Parent Coffee Chat concerning speech and occupational therapy. Because this event was such a success, we are going to hold these meetings on a regular basis this year, so mark your calendars for the following dates:

  • October 28th
  • January 13th
  • March 24th
  • June 2nd
All the meetings will be held at 9 am, just after drop off, and coffee and breakfast will be provided!

Coming soon, we will also be creating a Parents Only Yahoo group, so that BAC parents can keep in touch and share resources between meetings.

Thanks for reading this newsletter! We are looking forward to another great school year. Please continue to help us thrive by spreading the word about the BAC to your friends, families, and people you meet in the autism community!

Sincerely,

BAC Day at the Beach

Big thanks to the Singer family for inviting the BAC out for a day at Sands Beach Club in Atlantic Beach.

It was a beautiful day for the beach, and everyone enjoyed relaxing in the sun, eating a delicious lunch, and swimming in the pool!

If you have any photos from this day, please send them to Laura, and we will include them in next month's newsletter.
