Brooklyn Autism Center Newsletter June 2010
Greetings!

As we wrap up our third school year, we are so grateful to all of you for making the BAC such a supportive community! We are committed to keeping all BAC families and supporters updated on the latest happenings at the school. Therefore, this year we will be resuming monthly newsletters to keep you informed. Of course, as always we have an open door policy at the school and we invite you to stop by any time.

We hope you will find these newsletters informative and entertaining!

St. Ann's Summer Volunteer Program
Volunteers at WorkThis summer we have partnered with our neighbor, the St. Ann's School to provide a hands-on volunteer opportunity to their seventh and eighth grade students. A rotating group of about 10 St. Ann's students will be spending the summer at the BAC, making stimuli, taking data, interacting with students, and learning about autism.

One of the volunteers, Eliza Patterson shares:
I am really enjoying volunteering here! I love working and talking with the kids. They are all great and I find it very interesting learning how they are different then us. This is a really great opportunity and I'm so glad that I get to spend my summer doing this. This is a great learning experience and anyone who is able to do it should.
Gallop NYC
Asaf and Marshmallow
Next Thursday, June 24th will be the final Gallop NYC session of the Spring. Our older students have had a blast traveling to Kensington Stables every week and riding Snickers, Fudge, Marshmallow, and Tiramisu. The students have made a lot of progress and learned skills such as posting trot, using reins to steer and stop, and riding backwards.

Thanks to Gallop NYC for giving our students the opportunity to enjoy developing horseback riding skills this year!

Thanks for reading this newsletter! We are looking forward to another great school year. Please continue to help us thrive by spreading the word about the BAC to your friends, families, and people you meet in the autism community!

Sincerely,

Brooklyn Autism Center
Brooklyn Bridge Walk and Fundraiser

Our summer fund raising drive has been a huge  success! To date, we have raised over $80,000. Special thanks to board member, Marc Samit for taking the initiative to plan this fundraiser, and to everyone who has helped spread the word!

To celebrate this achievement, we will be walking across the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday, June 30th. Please join us for this memorable BAC day! We will depart from the school at 9:30 am, and arrive in City Hall Park at approximately 10 am to begin our journey. Following the walk, we will enjoy a picnic lunch in Empire-Fulton Ferry Park. Please contact lvert@brooklynautismcenter.org to RSVP or request more detailed information.
