Anti-virus software links are available on our partners page.

Your computer should always have some type of anti-virus software running to keep your computer clean.  We recommend Eset NOD32 for virus protection but Kapersky is fine too.  If you are a Comcast Internet customer, you can get anti-virus software for free.

Greetings!

Whew!  April was certainly a busy month for workshops.  Now it's time to take a break (sort of) and take a short vacation.  In June, we will be doing a few more workshops on social media so take a look at the MiniTech Conference website for a schedule. Ross Miller at Bradley's Small Business Development Center invited me to present the Social Media workshop there.

In this newsletter, I am putting a few tips on website promotion that I cover in the workshops.  I want people to understand that we cannot guarantee website visitors or sales through your website.  We do help you promote but it's up to you to market it via advertising, word-of-mouth and keeping your content fresh.  Take advantage of those free minor updates if you are a hosting customer.  New information on your site brings back visitors.  See below for more website promotion tips.

Thank you for your customer support!   - Tammy

Promote Your Website

There are so many ways you can promote your website on your own.  We do our best to get you listed in search engines but without continuous search engine optimization (SEO), eventually, someone else will take your place.  Before building your site, we make sure you know that we cannot guarantee sales or customers.  What we can do is build you a professional website.  We do provide SEO and it's time consuming.  If you are interested, please contact us for pricing.  But there are many things you can do on your own to promote your website and get customers:

1.  Get listed in directories.  There is a directory for virtually any profession, event planners, construction, eateries, etc.  Just search Google to find one and list your business.  For example, if you are a coach search "coaching directories" and see what's out there.

2.  Social media.  I keep harping about it but it works.

3.  Write some reviews on hotels, Amazon.com, yahoo.com or google.  This really helps get your name out there and you are providing a service to others. Go to Google.com/local, search your favorite restaurant (or computer store), click details and click review.

4.  Blog.  If you are a hosting customer, ask us to set up a blog for you.  It's easy to add information and keeps your website content fresh.  (which helps in search engines rankings)

5.  Display an online ad.  Community Word is a local website and newspaper that can provide very reasonably priced ads for your business.  They cover most of Central Illinois but their website is every where and very active.  www.thecommunityword.com

6.  Ask friends or colleagues to link to your website.  Many people will trade links for free.  The more links to your website, the more likely you will get traffic, which may bring customers.

7.  Start an Email Newsletter. Click the "Try it now" link below in this newsletter and sign up for a Constant Contact account.  We can also help you with this service.  It's a great way to keep your name in front of your clients.

I hope these tips help you and answer some questions about website promotion. As always, please contact us with questions.

Password Protect Documents

You can protect your documents by applying a password so that users cannot display or modify your document. You can apply two types of passwords:

Password to open the document:

If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to open the document, otherwise you cannot open the document.

Password to modify the document:

If it is applied then you have to give the correct password to modify the document, otherwise your document is opened but you cannot modify the document. It means that your document becomes read-only.

To apply a password to document, follow these steps.

* Open Save As dialog box by selecting "Save As" command from File menu.

* Click "Tools" button of Save As dialog box and choose "General Options" from drop down menu, "Save" dialog box appears as shown in figure below.

* Enter first password in "Password to open" text box and second password in "Password to modify" text box (if required) and click "Ok" button of dialog box. Microsoft Word will open "Confirm Password" dialog box for the
confirmation of passwords. The maximum length of either password is 15 characters.

* Re-enter the password to open and password to modify and click "Ok" button of Confirm Password dialog boxes one by one.

* Click "Save" button of Save As dialog box.
