Support Tip -   NonFinancial Accounts

From the beginning of time, MAS has had the ability to store nonfinancial information in the general ledger.  Nonfinancial accounts can be easily set up in Account Maintenance.  For example, you may want to store information such as employee head count, number of units produced, number of hours worked or square footage of retail space.  Once this data is stored in MAS, you can then generate financial reports that report based on this nonfinancial information.  For example, revenue per head count, revenue per hour worked, wages and benefits per unit produced, etc.  The benefit of storing this information in MAS is that comparisons to last month or last year will be very easy to do.

Of course, if you set up these accounts as nonfinancial (eg hours worked), you will not be able to debit hours worked and credit revenue.  The system is smarter than that - journal entries for financial and nonfinancial accounts must be separate.

We look forward to your feedback and your ideas for future issues of our newsletter.  If you would like to contribute an article or suggest an article or support tip to a future newsletter, we'd love to have your contribution.  Please let us know how we can help you Get the Most from Your Sage MAS 90 / 200 Investment.

Sincerely,
