Solar One and "What's On Your Plate?"
Our friends at Solar One have helped us create an inspiring, beautiful and standards-based "What's On Your Plate?" curriculum for use in schools across the country. We're jazzed about this collaboration. On September 25th, we will be joining Solar One for a special screening of "What's On Your Plate?" as part of their Solar Powered Film Series, a public outdoor event at Stuyvesant Cove Park overlooking the East River south of E. 23rd Street. Join us at 5:30pm. The wonderful girl-band Saffire goes on at 6pm and the film will start at dusk (around 7pm). Mark your calendars, and we'll see you there!

Slow Food's Time for Lunch Eat-In a Success!
On Labor Day, Sept. 7, 2009, people in
communities all over the country sat down to share a meal with their
neighbors and kids. This National Day of
Action sent a clear message to
Congress: It's time to provide America's
children with real food at school.
"What's On Your Plate?" was screened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where the local chapter got 50 signatures on the Child Nutrition Act petition! Check out our blog post and congratulations to Slow Food and our Williamsburg chapter for sharing our film!

Healthy Food for Kids Action and Updates
Our friends at One Tray are working to improve child nutrition by encouraging a more
direct connection between local farms and federal nutrition. Sign the petition with One Tray.org and help raise awareness about healthy school lunches across the country. USDA has launched their new initiative, Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food. We are pleased that Secretary Tom Vilsack is on board with helping everyone learn about their local producers and continuing a national dialogue on local procurement for schools. See Secretary Vilsack's address to the nation on YouTube here.
