Greetings!

 Change is in the air

Life is a journey ... where you were yesterday is not where you are today ... and where you will be tomorrow will make today feel like a yesterday!

All around us the evidence is clear. The season is changing. The temperatures have dropped. The color of the foliage is magnifying. The days are shorter and the nights are longer. Change is in the air.

Sometimes we forget that change is inevitable. We sometimes live as if where we are right now, what we feel right now, what we think right now---is where we will be forever. As we've been reading and studying in Ecclesiastes, Solomon sees both the "meaningless" feel of life (it's the same thing day after day), but at the same time he sees the constancy of change. His beautiful "time poem" captures the tension:

For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart...

14 And I know that whatever God does is final. Nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God's purpose is that people should fear him. 15 What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before...

Constant change. Nothing changes. Life is lived in that tension. The one constancy behind it all is God. God never changes.

James put it this way ...

17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

God is the one constancy you can count on when all of life is changing.

  • Does life seem to be moving too fast? Are the changes around you overwhelming? Today, be reminded that God is always there and God is always in control. Trust Him.

God is the one who is there to guide you when you feel stuck and that life will never change.

  • Do you find yourself in a dark place today, in that, you feel like you can never escape? Don't believe it. Life is constantly changing. And God is there to direct you through and beyond the turmoil of confusion that leaves you feeling trapped.

Constant change. Nothing changes.

Wherever you find yourself on this day, know that God is there and He knows the way ahead. Life is a journey ... where you were yesterday is not where you are today ... and where you will be tomorrow will make today feel like a yesterday!
