The Parable of the Bus Monitor
Okay, by now everyone has heard about the grandmother bus monitor who was bullied by several middle school boys. If you have haven't heard about it, just google it.
Some kind-hearted soul decided that the rest of us should do something nice for this gentle elderly woman. Whoever the Good Samaritan was, it was decided to try to raise $5000 for a really nice vacation. (And that would certainly make for one nice vacation!)
But here is the really cool part. While the deadline for giving is today, July 20th, at the time of writing this ... are you ready? ... to date ... $679,543!!!!! (Get the latest total by visiting this website: Bus Monitor).
Isn't that amazing? Wow! That's a heck of a vacation!
Of course it won't all go for vacation! She is retiring now! Her life has been forever changed by the generosity of others.
I have to confess, I didn't donate. I did think about it. And I went online to look at the donations (you can too). And this was the amazing thing I saw on the donation list. Most of the gifts were $5, $10, $15, $20, $25. It was a TON of little gifts that led to the one HUGNORMOUS gift (my word)! In fact of the 31,247 givers (as of the time of this writing), the average gift was just over $21.
Amazing.
Amazing how little gifts add up!
So where is the parable? Sometimes you might think that your little gift to the church (or to some other worthy cause, or even to someone whom you care for), might not matter all that much. But it is the little gifts compounded week by week, person by person, all working together-that changes lives.
Your $5, $10, $15, $20, $25 gifts to New Work Fellowship are the so important.
Would you pray that we would be faithful in the little things in our lives? After all Jesus did say in Luke 16:9-11,
9 Here's the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.
10 "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities. 11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
