I borrowed this. It is a "one-minute devotional". Sometimes, quick and to the point is all that is needed. I didn't write it (well, I did make some comments and edits). But I think the author might have been looking in our windows!
The Checkbook Doesn't Lie
I had an interesting conversation with a friend who is an atheist. He had visited our church and heard statistics on the high number of families who give nothing to the Lord's work each year. (More on this on Friday.) The basic minimum in faithful giving, according to the Bible, is ten percent, or a tithe. My friend said to me, "I was shocked. I thought if you people really believe this stuff about God, heaven, and hell, and the importance of spreading the message, you'd want to give more than ten percent. 'Cause what could be more important than that?"
(The truth stings sometimes, doesn't it? Really, I had to stop and ask myself the question, what in my life is truly more important than that? Would you spend some time today thinking about that question?)
Jesus would agree, for He clearly said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be." In short, where you spend your money reveals the priorities of your heart. So, what does your checkbook say about your priorities? The checkbook doesn't lie. To all you folks who profess to be Christians, what does your checkbook say about your faith in God? Do you really believe what you profess to believe?
2 Corinthians 9:6, NIV
6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Luke 12:34,
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Where are your treasures going? What does that reveal about your heart? Are you sowing generously with God? Would you pray that God would align the desires of our heart with His heart?
