"His Church First".

Some of you have been around here long enough to remember praying for these three words. Many of you do not recognize the significance to these words. But they are important words at New Work Fellowship. Pray over them today.

Reach

Connect

Serve

Let me remind you why these words are important.

Reaching - we have a "two directional" reach in the church. We are reaching up to God in worship ... and reaching out to people. So we are reaching up in worship of God and out in relationship to others. ("Reaching" actually speaks to two of the purposes of the church: Worship and Evangelism. We are to be a reaching body).

Connecting - what is it that connects us in the church? I can think of a couple "glue-like" qualities that bring connection. We are to connect in God's word. We connect with our heavenly Father through being in God's Word, but even that is to take place in community. And community is the second connecting point. We are warned about going "solo" in this world. Every Christian needs to be connected.

("Connecting" actually speaks to two of the purposes of the church: Discipleship and Fellowship. We are to be a connecting body).

Serving - God has gifted every one of us with unique abilities, gifts and passions to do his work. Our goal is to see that every one gets to use those gifts in a meaningful way. This is also a "two directional" word. People need to use their serving gifts ...

(This word touches on two more functions of the church: ministry and missions. We are to be a serving body).
