Greetings!
God is Holy. Sometimes we forget that fact. I'm sure that God loves us to think of Him as "Daddy", a very intimate and personal connection. But sometimes I wonder if we move from "intimate" to "casual". We forget He is Holy. I was reading in Leviticus recently. (Seriously, why are you doubting me? - There is some good stuff in Leviticus). In fact, why don't you take a few minutes and open your Bible and read Leviticus 16. Hit pause for a moment, grab your bible or enable your web browser and read Leviticus 16. Read Leviticus 16. Okay, you're back, right? If you didn't actually stop and read it, it might be that you are guiltier of coming before God with a casual attitude than you think. In that chapter you read of the great seriousness and details that were required to come before God. Look at these details: - Aaron is not to come "whenever or however" he wants. This encounter with God begins on God's time and on God's terms. He sets the agenda. Do you come before God with that attitude? "I'm here God because you called me here."
- Before anything else, Aaron was expected to deal with his sin first. Nothing else matters until the sin issue is resolved. If you don't spend time in confession, you may be presuming upon God with a "whatever" mind-set.
So let's stop right there. You paused long enough to read God's word. How about taking the time to confess your sin? Remember the Bible tells us that if we say that we have no sin, we are liars and the truth is not in us ... so if you can't think of any other sin, start right there. - Verse 17 reminds us that God wants our undivided attention. Put aside all your thoughts of today's agenda, the things that need to be done this week, all the needs of others who are pulling on you. Focus on the One and Only.
- We are to "clothe" ourselves according to God's word. It is bewildering to me how much attention we put on our appearance and clothing. But God is concerned more with how we dress in His righteousness.
Now, beyond the details, get the big picture: You come before God according to His sovereignty and summoning. He is Holy - and deserves your undivided attention. Give Him that. This week, I'm giving Him that. This week I'm away on a prayer/planning retreat hearing from God as to what He wants taught/proclaimed throughout the rest of 2012. Pray for me that I will hear from Him and will come before Him as one summoned before the King of Kings. He's still "Daddy", but He is Holy. |
