While we're on the topic of being outdoors, I thought I'd share with you some information I ran across concerning the effect of being outdoors on ADHD. According to a nationwide study, children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) should spend some quality time outdoors each day.
Researchers observed the positive effects spending time outdoors had on ADHD patients in different regions of the country. Participants, ages 5-18, spent time in "green" areas, which varied from big cities to rural settings. The results indicated a dramatic reduction in symptoms. Researchers believe that simply incorporating nature with regular after-school and weekend activities can be widely effective. Click here to read more from eLearningK12 on treatments for ADHD. |
You may remember participating in the President's Physical Fitness Challenge when you were in school. What began as a national youth fitness test has grown up, in a big way. Today, the President's Challenge takes staying active beyond the school gym, and into everyday life. The entire family can participate in the Active Lifestyle Challenge, or if you are already active, the Presidential Champions Challenge. You can log in daily to record your activity to earn points toward awards. Sign up as individuals, or create a group for your family or workplace to compete together. You will be amazed at how easily you can add a little activity to your daily routine to improve your overall health and well-being. If the weather is not cooperating, pull out the Wii your kids got for Christmas and challenge them to a game of Wii Tennis. Yes, you can earn activity points for that! Hula hoop is an excellent aerobic activity that is easy on the joints. ThePresident's Challenge web site has many other ideas on how you can add activity to your busy schedule. Let's get out there and get fit! |

Here is a great way to get in some "green" time and some activity points: jumping rope! Jumping rope is a great aerobic exercise for any age, and it's not just for girls! Many professional athletes include jumping rope in their fitness routines. You can jump rope alone or with a group, indoors or outdoors. Here at eLearning, we will learn a different jump rope rhyme each day. Do you remember any that you'd like to share with us? Reply to this email with your favorite jump rope rhyme. |
