How can you teach your children to be grateful?  An InBox Learning Tip from eLearningK12
Truxillo family giving thanks for Kaitlin's life
As promised in our last issue, here are tips to help your children learn to be more grateful, not only during the holidays, but also every day.

It isn't easy to teach your kids an attitude of gratitude when they are constantly being bombarded with the pressures of holiday media. They can hardly help being lured into the enticing world of Nintendo Wii, iPhones, and Hanna Montana.  But if you take the time to encourage them to be grateful for what they have and to swim against the rising tide of consumerism, you'll be giving them a far greater gift than anything you can buy in a store. You'll be teaching them to be happy with less - something that can improve their quality of life tremendously, both today and well into the future. Here are a few tips for helping your children to develop a spirit of thankfulness:

Web Pick of the Week
Tiffany works with a studentThis week's web pick is a perfect fit for this week's message.  PBS Kids Don't Buy It! teaches kids and teens how to evaluate the many advertising messages they see daily. Kids learn about advertising tricks, how to buy smart, and the real cost of cool.  We are so impressed with the site that we are planning lessons using it with our students.  We hope  you find it helpful as well.
Nina and students playing BlokusIn each issue of InBox Learning, we present an unplugged, non-electronic activity you can enjoy as a family during the last hour of the day, just before bedtime. Here at eLearningK12 we believe this hour should be a time of peace and relaxation in the home, giving a smooth transition from the hectic day to a restful night.

Unplugged Pick of the Week
Another eLearning favorite is the game Blokus.  Blokus is a strategy game for two to four players.  Throughout the whole world, Blokus is played by families to enjoy special moments with the children, or between adults for fun and lively evenings. Casual players appreciate how easy it is to master and how fast the games are, while the experts at games of strategy take their time to reflect. Blokus brings together players of all ages : Blokus classic gameit often happens that very young children with sharp minds win against their parents or grandparents!

Blokus is available in most toy stores or online stores.  There are now several versions available.  The classic version is shown here, but the travel version is perfect for only two players.  Consider Blokus as a family gift this Christmas, and enjoy playing as a family.
We hope you enjoyed this issue of InBox Learning.  Please forward it to family and friends who may be interested by using the Forward this issue link below.  Have a blessed and peaceful holiday season.
