Education for the way we live

    Creating a Happier Household

mother and sonHappy New Year to all of you!  Since this is traditionally a time for us to get a fresh start with new challenges, I though you'd enjoy this advise from Reader's Digest  for creating a happier household:

1. Provide order and stability. Kids need a routine so they feel calm and reassured. A predictable daily schedule, clear rules, and an organized house make both you and your children more relaxed and comfortable. So when stressful situations occur, kids know there's a part of life that won't change. A calm bedtime routine is a good start.

 Unplugged Pick of the Week

girsl playing chinese checkersIn each issue of InBox Learning, we present an unplugged, non-electronic activity you can enjoy as a family during the last hour of the day, just before bedtime.
Here at eLearningK12 we believe this hour should be a time of peace and relaxation in the home, giving a smooth transition from the hectic day to a restful night.

Chinese checkers is a classic game for two to six players.  You probably already have a set in a closet somewhere.  If not, they are readily available and inexpensive.  Despite its name, the game is neither Chinese nor related to checkers!  The aim of the game is simply to enter all of one's ten marbles into the opposite "Home base" (star point) on the opposite side of the board before any other player in the game finishes entering his/her pieces likewise.  Mastering the art of hopping across multiple marbles is the key to victory!
