Seniors & Driving... Tips & Tactics
|
|
by Regina McNamara
Older adults are the fastest growing segment
of the US population. The number
of older (over 75) drivers is increasing in number, and so is the number of
miles they drive each year. Older
adults rely on automobile transportation due to the isolation in the suburbs
without access to convenient mass transportation. Also, driving represents independence, the ability to
participate in community activities, and the opportunity to stay connected to
others more generally.
BUT:
Older drivers are much more
likely to cause, be severely injured in, or die in auto accidents due to
overall fragility, medication or chronic disease. Despite the threat of danger, the number of drivers 65 and
older continues to increase at a significantly higher rate than other groups.

Medicare Managed Care Plans: Buyer Beware!
While most of us in the health care field
are watching the activity of our representatives in Washington as they attempt to create a
health care plan that meets all the needs of everyone needing health care in
this country, there is one thing that many agree upon: Medicare is a good program.
Since its enactment in
1965, this comprehensive program has covered all the medical needs of seniors
and has obviously expanded considerably in the past few decades due to the
increasing number of Americans in this age group as well as advances in
medicine.

and their staffs, and we are committed to referring them on a regular basis
