Hi All,
Although students 2nd
through 5th grade receive keyboarding training and practice as part of the
Technology curriculum, keyboarding is one of those skills that requires a lot
of practice to gain perfection. We only have so much time available for keyboarding
practice during Technology and school hours, so if you want your
children to practice keyboarding at home to supplement the training
they receive at school, here are some great online resources to improve their
skills:
Dance Mat Typing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/
Touch Typing:
http://www.sense-lang.org/typing/tutor/index.php?lang=EN
Typing Practice: http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/typing/index.htm
Fingerjig Typing: http://www.jonmiles.co.uk/games/fingerjig/
Power Typing: http://www.powertyping.com/qwerty/lessonsq.html
Peters Online Typing
Course: http://typing-lessons.org/
Note: Please
limit keyboarding to 10-15 min. per day for maximum benefit - spending
more than than this tend to cause students to lose focus on using the
keyboarding technique in an optimal way.
Please bookmark the websites to
allow your child easy access and remind them to use their keyboarding skills
(your student will be familiar with this term!), which includes proper
posture and the use of the home row keys.
Second, when designing the
technology curriculum we always match or exceed the standards set by the
District and State: An internal rubric
showing which technology skills we are aiming to have each grade level master
at the end of the school year can be downloaded here:
http://sportsbil.com/school/tech_rubric.pdf
I am hoping that this will
give you the opportunity to provide support for your child as they build
computer skills.
Please feel free to contact
me if you have any questions or comments.
