A Letter Long Overdue!
Gary R. Goodhile
Principal, Sullivan Benefits
Before I get down to business, on behalf of the entire Sullivan Benefits Team, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a healthy and prosperous 2012.
This month I thought I would share with you a letter that I mailed today to Senator Scott Brown. It has been almost 2 full years since Senator Brown was elected. At the time, many of us thought that his vote would be the one needed to derail health reform. History tells us that was not the case. We have now lived through the better part of a year and a half under the new rules of play and for the most part it has not been hugely impactful to date, with one significant exception; the requirement that every health benefit plan include an unlimited lifetime maximum. This mandate has created an enormous financial burden for some, and a significant new exposure for all employers that self-fund their health benefit plan. A burden that prior to the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was largely born by our state and federal government.
This is a very real problem that I do not believe should be left unchecked. I am hopeful that Senator Brown may lend a sympathetic ear. Please take a minute to read the link to the letter below and if you think it appropriate, reach out yourself.

As we wrap up 2011 and move into 2012, many employees will be anxious to set healthy New Year's resolutions. As employers, this is a great opportunity to offer wellness programs that encourage and support employees with their goals. A focus on one or more of the following is key; Nutrition, Exercise, Stress Management, Smoking Cessation and most important, Preventive check ups.
In addition to encouraging healthy behaviors for all individuals, a successful employee wellness program focuses on keeping your
healthiest members healthy! These are members that are at risk of transitioning into a disease state (those with acute, chronic or catastrophic illnesses). It is important for them to maintain good health, focus on prevention and avoidance. Read More |
