Dramatic change in the healthcare industry is underway and we can look back to a number of significant events going back to March of last year that took place. In hindsight these changes may well be viewed as the perfect storm that transformed the local health care landscape. Change that is bringing a renewed focus on cost transparency while creating significant challenges for some local hospital administrators.

After devoting decades to designing a pyramid, then honing and refining that design, the nation's nutrition experts have settled on what they believe is the perfect geometry to represent what we should eat; a plate.
MyPlate is a new generation icon with the intent to prompt consumers to think about building a healthy plate at meal times and to seek more information to help them do that by going to www.ChooseMyPlate.gov.
MyPlate promotes fruits and vegetables, which cover half the circle. Grains occupy an additional quarter, as do proteins such as meat, fish, and poultry. Next to the plate is a blue circle for dairy, which could be a glass of milk or a food such as cheese or yogurt.
