As health care costs continue to rise dramatically and medical plans continue to require more and more employee cost sharing through large deductibles and copayments, maintaining a comprehensive and competitive employee benefits program is becoming increasingly difficult. Many employers are now re-evaluating their offering of voluntary benefits as a means to help employees fill in perceived gaps in coverage and increase employee morale, loyalty and productivity. Those that do find themselves with more appreciative employees; according to research from WellPoint, Inc., 83% of employees think more highly of employers that offer voluntary insurance benefits than those that don't.
So just what are Voluntary Benefits? Voluntary benefits are benefits for which employees pay 100% of premiums through payroll deduction.
