Massachusetts Health Care Reform Legislation requires employers to establish and communicate a MA Section 125 Plan which enables eligible employees (all employees in Massachusetts over age 18, working at least 64 hours per month but less than your full-time benefits eligible employees) to pay for coverage through the Massachusetts Insurance Connector (The Connector) with pre-tax payroll deductions. 
 
The Connector recently sent out letters entitled "2009 Commonwealth Choice Voluntary Plan Open Enrollment Process".  Most Connector plans are scheduled to renew on July 1, 2009, and therefore the open enrollment period is upon us.  Under the terms of the "premium only" MA Section 125 plan, you must allow eligible employees an opportunity to enroll, change or cancel their coverage through the Connector during the annual open enrollment period.
 
In order to successfully complete your Voluntary Plan renewal and avoid gaps in coverage for your employees, please follow the important steps below:

A sample letter that you may use to notify your employees of your open enrollment is provided by the Connector.  Additional communication materials, including posters & flyers can be found in the Employer Section of the Connector website.  Currently enrolled employees will also receive a letter directly from Commonwealth Connector informing them of their health plan renewal options.
 
If you have already established a "premium only" MA Section 125 plan, and have obtained an Employer ID # from the Commonwealth Connector, please confirm your Employer ID # with us.
 
If you have not yet established a "premium only" MA Section 125 plan, you will need to do so at this time.  This plan will allow your part time, non-benefit eligible employees to elect health insurance through the Commonwealth Connector, and pay for the coverage via pre-tax payroll deductions. Contact us for assistance in setting up this program.
