News from Cape Abilities  - August 2
"Summer's lease hath all too short a date."
-   William Shakespeare

It is hard to believe that it's August. We've had some spectacular weather, and the tomatoes are better than ever.

New this week, straight from our farm fields in Marstons Mills - zucchini, golden zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers. Don't forget our eggplant, green peppers and English cucumbers, grown at our farm in Dennis.

Of course, the sweet corn is still sumptuous. For something different, try this recipe for corn fritters, from Cape Abilities Farm Team member Shanda Hiller.

We also have local blueberries, from Sprout Farm in Mashpee. As one customer told us, "I'm picky about my blueberries, and these are terrific." Try some, and let us know what you think.

Be sure to visit our field of sunflowers - guaranteed to make you smile. You can pick your own - for $1 per stem.  Also check out our "giant pumpkin" patch - the pumpkins are growing fast.

The farm stand is open every day (except Monday) from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Pain D'Avignon Bread at the Farm

If you have never tasted the delicious bread from Pain D'Avignon in Hyannis, you are in for a treat.

We are now selling a limited selection of these beautifully handcrafted artisan breads at our farm.

A two pound loaf is $5, one pound for $3.

For Your Garden - Black-Eyed Susans, Asters and Marigolds

black eyed susans
Amy Lawler, part of Cape Abilities Farm Team, recommends these plants to help fill in the gaps in your garden. They are all heat, drought and rabbit resistent. Try some vanilla marigolds, asters, zinnia profusion, vinca, and of course, the popular black-eyed susans (photo at left).

The black-eyed susan is the official state flower of Maryland, home of the Preakness Stakes, run every year at Pimlico.

All of these plants, and more, are available at our farmstand in Dennis.
