We've had some unusually warm weather this past week and that has been good for all of the produce at Cape Abilities Farm. However, the tomato supply is still limited, so come early if you want tomatoes. There is plenty of lettuce, herbs and other items available. The farmstand in Dennis opens at 10 AM.
Tomatoes have been in the news for the past several days. The FDA has linked a salmonella outbreak to certain types of tomatoes. Tomatoes grown in Massachusetts - including tomatoes grown at Cape Abilities Farm - have not been associated with the problem. All Plants on Sale - Buy 3 and Get 1 Free!
This week's special is really special. All of our plants are on sale. The means all annuals, hanging plants, deck plants, herbs - everything that you need for your garden. Come early for the best selection.
Speaking of hanging plants - one of our customers bought a beautiful white geranium hanging basket when we opened a few weeks ago. She just discovered that it is now home to a bird's nest! The birds are small, brown and very protective of their nest - so watering the geranium has become a challenge. If you have any suggestions on safe watering practices - send us an email at news@CapeAbilities.org. We'll pass them along. |
Grampa Iadarola Tomato Plant
There have been lots of bees, plants and patches adopted this week for Father's Day gifts. Betty Curry recently adopted a tomato plant to honor her father "Grampa" Americo Iadarola. Betty shared some information about her father on our blog:
"Americo Iadarola, my Dad lived to be 98 years old. He had a garden every year and his tomato plants were the best. He was one of seven sons and was brought up on a farm. He left behind four children, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. He was so loved by his family and we miss him. He would love that we honored him with a tomato plant at CapeAbilities Farm."
Thank you Betty. You can sign up online or at the farm to Adopt a Bee, Tomato Plant or Farm Patch to honor your father, grandfather or someone special and become a Cape Abilities Farm member. For more information, click here. |
