The Benefits of Massage |
|

What exactly are the benefits of receiving massage?
Useful for all of the conditions listed below and more, massage can:
-
Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
-
Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
-
Ease medication dependence.
-
Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow-the body's natural defense system.
-
Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
-
Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
-
Improve the condition of the body's largest organ-the skin.
-
Increase joint flexibility.
-
Lessen depression and anxiety.
-
Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
-
Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
-
Reduce postsurgery adhesions and swelling.
-
Reduce spasms and cramping.
-
Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
-
Release endorphins-amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
-
Relieve migraine pain.
There's no denying the power of massage. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenating, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.
Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress. This translates into:
Decreased anxiety.
Enhanced sleep quality.
Greater energy.
Improved concentration.
Increased circulation.
Reduced fatigue. |

Know Your Zones

|
Rather than relying on fragrance, packaging, or word of mouth when selecting a cleanser or moisturizer, what if you could choose based upon facts about your very own skin condition? Face MappingĀ®, Dermalogica's unique skin analysis available at SpaRenity, provides insight into your skin's past and present, and allows the subsequent prescription of a targeted home care regimen for a healthy skin future.
Developed by The International Dermal Institute for Dermalogica, Face MappingĀ® takes no more than five to ten minutes, is free, and eliminates the guesswork when selecting products for results on your skin. Rather than analyzing the skin in general terms, a Dermalogica Professional Skin Therapist uses Face MappingĀ® to divide the facial landscape into fourteen zones. Each zone is thoroughly examined inch-by-inch through touch and site, and findings are notated on a prescription sheet. This prescription sheet serves as a customized visual guide for you, outlining on an actual facial landscape illustration where conditions including congestion, breakouts, dehydration, and/or hyperpigmentation are present.
Make an appointment today to try Face Mapping and find out what products are right for you!
Zones 1 & 3: Traditionally, this zone is regarded as the "sister" to the bladder and digestive system. If you breakout frequently in this area, it might mean that you need to improve your elimination by drinking more water and eating more "whole" foods. Zone 2 The middle of the forehead, between the eyebrows, is related to the liver. Congestion in this zone can indicate over-consumption of alcohol, rich foods, and possibly a food allergy (such as lactose intolerance). Zones 4 & 10: The ears are a highly sensitive area related to the kidneys. If you notice that your ears are very hot, uou might be stressing them out - drink plenty of plain water and cut down on caffeine and alcohol. Zones 5 & 9: The cheeks often give an accurate glimpse into any respiratory distress. Smokers or people suffering from allergies generally experience fine, broken capillaries or congestion in this area. Zone 7: A reddened nose can indicate heightened blood pressure, or the earlky stages of rosacea. Congestion around the upper lip can occur if you use comedogenic lipstick or liners. Zones 11 & 13: If you have had extensive dental surgery done, you might notice a breakout in the jaws near the ears. Zone 12: Breakouts or unusual hair growth can indicate hormonal imbalance, possibly caused by extreme stress. Premenstrual breakouts are also very common on the chin. Zone 14: Don't forget to include your neck in your treatment regimen -- its skin is just as fragile as that on your face, so it definitely needs the benefits of moisturization and sun protection.
