Scott
County Park Planning -- We Need Your Help!
Wednesday, August
4th
6:00 -
7:30pm
Scott County Government
Center
The
Citizens League is working with Scott County to help design and implement a
public engagement process for their parks and trails planning process. Similar
to our work with the DNR, this process will allow Scott County residents to
provide their input on what the priorities, goals and timeline should be for the
development of local parks and trails. Before
we go out to the public we need your help. We've designed a set of interactive
discussion questions to help facilitate a conversation with Scott County
residents and need your help to test them out first. Attend our trial run
meeting to provide your feedback and input on the questions and help us build
the right process to engage residents
and create a collective vision for Scott County's parks and trails.

Honoring Choices: Share Your Story With TPTThe
Citizens League is partnering with Twin Cities Public Television and the Twin
Cities Medical Society on an important initiative called "Honoring Choices
Minnesota." The goal of the project is promote family discussions and planning
about end-of-life choices, so that Minnesota may become a place where the choices
made at the end of one's life, whatever those choices may be, serve to honor and
respect the integrity and values of each and every unique person. Do you have a story you are willing to
share? If so, TPT will be holding and videotaping listening sessions
next Tuesday, August 3. You can sign up here. Don't underestimate the power of
your story! Visit Stacy Becker's blog "Cow
Thoughts" here. |
Students Wanted: Students Speak Out Web Design ChallengeThe
Students Speak Out Design Challenge, a 3-hour event to be held the third week of
August in St.
Paul, is looking to learn from young people. We're
looking for students between the ages of 13-18 who are interested in advising
the Citizens League and who have an opinion on what might motivate young people
to get involved with public policy issues online. Students will work in a team
to provide feedback on existing websites and design the basics of a civic
engagement website focused on young people. Five to
seven students will be selected to participate. We'll provide pizza, and participants will receive a
$50 gift card to Best Buy. Learn
more, and contact Lindsey Alexander at 651-329-1328 or
lindsey[at]lindseyalexanderconsulting.com if you are
interested. |
Member Profile: Brian Bell Brian
Bell has been a member of the Citizens League for
four years, originally as a staff member and now serves as a Board Member. He now works as a Civic Education
Manager for the Minnesota State Bar Association. Why
he joined:"What
drew me to the Citizens League was its balanced approach to policy work. I did not, and in many respects still do not, fit into any one political
ideology. After moving back to Minnesota [from college]...I was still highly interested in public policy but wanted
to be involved in an organization the was truly bi-partisan. The
Citizens League was that organization." How
he practices civic engagement:"I
helped to develop and now co-facilitate the Citizens League's 10-week civic
leadership program, Quantum Civics...where we help students learn how to apply
democratic values of active citizenship and stakeholder engagement into their
places of work or community." Why
he recommends membership: "I
would recommend membership to others highly; in fact I frequently give gift
memberships to friends and colleagues. Most importantly, I do so because
I think the Citizens League and its members are fun...[and it] gives me an
opportunity to hear a variety of perspectives on an issue and often highlights
issues (e.g. long-term care) that are not championed by of one of the
two major political parties but are nevertheless important and interesting to
me." |
