Support Impartial Courts: Contact Your Legislator
On Friday, Sean Kershaw sent a letter to state legislators urging them to support legislation (HF224/SF70) to establish a ballot initiative in November 2010 to improve our system for selecting and electing judges.
Minnesota needs a constitutional amendment to protect the impartiality of our courts because of a recent Supreme Court decision and the negative effects of expensive campaigns in other states.
Please contact your legislators and let them know about your support.
Find your representative, and find sample email text and more information about the change we are proposing on the Citizens League's website. |
Apply to Evaluate Submissions to the MN Idea Open
Minnesota Idea Open is coming!
In the contest, people from around the state will submit their ideas of how to address important policy problems. Proposals will be narrowed down by teams of evaluators and judges, then the finalists will be put to the public for a final vote. The submission that comes out on top gets $15,000 to become a reality, and the submitter receives $500. The first contest, addressing obesity, kicks off in 21 days.
The Citizens League is organizing the evaluation of proposals, and we're currently recruiting evaluators.
Evaluators will be responsible for reading and scoring proposals based on their innovation, impact and potential for growth. They will be expected to:
- Participate in an orientation session on Wednesday, March 10.
- Evaluate proposals between March 19 and April 14.
- Participate in a final evaluating session on Saturday, April 17.
Evaluators may also help in promoting the contest and identifying potential resources for strong entries.
If you would like to apply to be an evaluator, please contact us by Friday, March 5, with the answers to these three questions:
1. What policy areas do you have professional expertise or a professional interest in?
2. What policy areas are you particularly interested in, but do not have a professional interest?
3. What additional experiences do you have that you think will add to your perspective as an evaluator?
Interested individuals should send their responses to MN Idea Open intern Adam Arling at aarling [at] citizensleague.org.
