The stock market is sliding. Unemployment is rising. The bailout has passed, but credit continues to be tight. Recession -- a bad recession -- seems inevitable.

Today, we're facing huge policy challenges -- but these challenges actually present the opportunity for creativity in policy making. The Citizens League's combination of imagination and pragmatism has been behind some of Minnesota's greatest innovations in the past, and it is what we desperately need today.

Join us on November 20th as we celebrate our past year and look to the year ahead, and highlight ways for you to get involved in these efforts.

Visit our website for more information, or register now.

Reach Our Membership Goal -- Only 50 Members To Go!

Water Policy Committee to Study Governance

At the Water Policy Committee meeting on Thursday, the committee voted to focus its study on governance issues.

In the research the committee has done and the presentations it has heard, it is clear that the system by which water is governed in Minnesota is far from ideal. It can be difficult to differentiate the purviews of the many agencies involved in managing various aspects of water policy, and it can be just as difficult to see where the rest of us fit into this system.

Follow the work of committee on the blog, or contact Annie Levenson-Falk (alevensonfalk@citizensleague.org) for more information.
Redistricting: How Should MN Redraw the Lines?

Minnesota may be losing a congressional district after the 2010 census, meaning a potential loss of 12% of our representation in Congress and untold sums of federal money for the state. The Citizens League wants to ensure that the new district map reflects where Minnesotans feel their boundaries and communities are, so take this 3-minute survey to let us know about your community and priorities.

Thanks to readers who pointed out a couple of glitches with the survey after our previous email - the bugs have been fixed.
