I hope you'll join us for some of them.

April Branch Meeting Relationship Violence: Domestic, Dating, Elder Abuse
|

Tuesday April 24
5-7pm Kingston Library We see sensational stories of relationship violence when they hit the newspaper, but their are many stories that go unreported in our families and among our neighbors.
We haven't discussed our community response to relationship violence in a long time, so this month we'll have a panel of professionals from the agencies that serve victims of violence: the DA/Court system, the police, Family of Woodstock (victim services and shelter), and the ministry.
The Congress is currently debating renewing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Join us as we learn more about how Ulster County responds to relationship violence and what we can do to educate and help prevent abuse and support victims.

Pay Equity Day Advocating for Legislative Change
|

It takes almost 15 months for women to earn what a man in a comparable position earns in twelve. That gap begins straight out of school and can mean thousands of dollars.
Today, when most families depend on two bread winners and single mothers are often one paycheck away from homelessness, AAUW is taking a leadership position on the state and national level to advocate for pay equity and comparable worth.
The Kingston Branch will be holding two events on April 17, Pay Equity Day. Public Policy Day: Join us as we meet with other AAUW members in Albany to meet with our state Senator and Assembly Reps about pay equity and other public policy issues. The more the merrier - read more details in the Public Policy article below. register at http://aauwppd2012.eventbrite.com (it's free) and let Susan Holland know so we can travel together. | Keegan Ales |
Pay Equity UnHappy Hour at Keegan Ales Bring your friends, neighbors, and adult children to the "Unhappy Hour" -- an informal networking event, 5-7pm, for people who care about pay equity for women and minorities or want to learn more. Come early. Stay late. Or just drop by on your way home after work. We'll gather at Keegan Ales, 20 St.James St., Kingston 12401. Directions.
