Book Discussion Group
Japanese Inn by Oliver Statler
|
December 15, 2009 Kingston Library Community Room 1:00 pm This month we'll discuss Japanese Inn by Oliver Statler. "Statler's story of Japanese history through the eyes of the Inn-keeper
of the Minaguchi-ya completely takes ones mind and imagination on a
wonderful journey to the 1500s and brings you into the 20th century.
James Michener, in his wonderful autobiography, "The World Is My Home",
stated that in Japanese Inn Oliver Statler both wrote a minor classic
and did not need any help from him." -- Amazon reviewer
Yes, the group will be at 1pm, as usual. Come back at 5pm for the holiday party.

Potluck & a Film
In Bruges
|
At 5 PM on Sunday, December 20th, we will gather for a covered dish supper and watch the funny-poignant film, "In Bruges."
Here's the opening of a review:
You may know that Bruges, Belgium, is pronounced "broozh," but I didn't, and the heroes of "In Bruges" certainly don't. They're Dublin hit-men, sent there by their boss for two weeks after a hit goes very wrong. One is a young hothead who sees no reason to be anywhere but Dublin; the other, older, gentler, more curious, buys a guidebook and announces: "Bruges is the best-preserved medieval city in Belgium!"
I'll have some weisswurst. I'll be away the week before, so I'll trust you not to bring all desserts.
Hope to see you then! ViVi |
