September 12th- Laughter Yoga
|
When was the last time you had a good, hearty laugh? In our fast-paced culture, sometimes we get so serious that fun and laughter take a back seat and we might postpone joy in the name of keeping up with our responsibilities. But what if we told you there was a designated time and place where you could gather with others who want to laugh-- on purpose and for your health!
Laughter Yoga was founded in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria in Mumbai, India and today, there are over 7,000 laughter yoga clubs in 72 countries worldwide. Combining playfulness with yogic breathing, laughter yoga is based on the premise that you don't need any external source of humor in order to derive the benefits of laughter. Laughing boosts the immune system, increases endorphin and seratonin levels, and well, just makes you feel lighter! What greater benefit could there be?
Here's a video from Dr. Kataria's site, laughteryoga.org, to get you giggling and give you a preview of what the practice is all about!
