Ayurveda, literally meaning "life knowledge", is the ancient holistic medical system that parallels yoga and aims to help us find balance through a focus on elements such as diet, lifestyle, exercise, pranayama (breath) practice and meditation. Increasing our self-awareness through attention to these areas of life allows our truest nature and purpose to shine through-- when we feel good, we project that out into the world in all we do!
In Western medicine, we tend to view wellness as the absence of disease, and so we take the steps necessary to alleviate symptoms, while often missing preventative measures that could have been taken and leaving the root of the illness untreated. Ayurveda is different in that it approaches our health and wellness concerns from a mind-body perspective, taking into account a person's whole being.
If you are interested in delving deeper into this subject matter, don't miss our upcoming workshop with Ayurvedic practitioner, Ann Wagoner, happening on August 10th from 6-9pm.
Knowing your Ayurvedic mind-body type, or dosha, is an empowering tool in the effort to stay balanced and feel well. You may have heard of the three primary doshas-- Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Though we are all tri-doshic, made up of a little bit of all 3, we each have a primary mind-body type. Not sure what yours is? Take this brief
dosha quiz to help you figure it out.
