Walk the Talk

A winner makes commitments;
a loser makes promises.

The more promises we make the less they mean. I think it may be better if we withheld our spoken promises until we are ready to make a commitment.

I think of the two sons Jesus told about in Matthew 28:28-31. The father asked his two sons to go work today in the vineyard. The first said no and the second said yes, however, the first changed his mind and went to work while the second did not go at all. Which one did the will of the father? Jesus asked. The first one - the son who carefully considered, then did what he knew he should.

We respect the person who does what he says he is going to do. We distrust people who fail to carry through on their promises.

Being reliable makes you valuable.

What you DO is so much more important than what you SAY.

The Bible uses the word FAITHFUL to describe the reliable few. Not only is the world watching us to see if we "walk the talk" but this verse points out that God is watching us also.

"My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me;

he whose walk is blameless will minister to me." Psalms 101:6

We cannot depend on people who say one thing and do another. A truly valuable person is one whom you can trust because they honor their commitments. Words are easy to speak but sometimes they are difficult to honor.

"Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? ...

He whose walk is blameless ... who keeps his oath even when it hurts."
Psalm 15:1,2,4
