A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
The Shepherd speaks and his sheep know his voice. Jesus calls himself the Good Shepherd. He also calls himself the "gate for the sheep." Jesus is saying that there is no other way to enter the sheepfold except through him.
The key word here is "relationship."
The shepherd knows his sheep and the sheep know the shepherd.
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:9-11 NIV
Six Steps to a RELATIONSHIP with GOD
1. First, there must be an introduction.
"Hello, God, my name is _________ and I want to get to know you. I need you and want you to come into my heart."
2. We bring our failures and our mistakes to Him and ask for forgiveness.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV
3. Next we need to learn about each other. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our thoughts and our dreams. He understands our deepest needs.
The Bible is our source of information about God. If we want to have a relationship with Him, we need to read the Bible.
4. We know we are a member of His family.
The best part of this loving relationship is knowing that we are a part of the family. We belong. We are secure in the knowledge that we "have a place at the table."
God is our Father. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
We have a room reserved in our name in the Hotel of Heaven.
5. We grow in knowledge and understanding.
We begin to "SEE" God at work around us and we look for opportunities to serve Him. We question Him less and trust Him more.
6. We anticipate spending Eternity with Him.
The years of our life on earth are only a preparation for our life in Eternity.
This world is NOT "all there is."
Looking forward,
