The Road We're On
Does the road you're on get you to my place? God (seen on a billboard)
"If you board the wrong train, it is no use running along the corridor in the other direction." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I don't think there has been a time in history when we were busier than we are these days. All those labor-saving devices that were to give us so much free time, just allowed a multitude of other things to consume our time and energy. But all the time in the world will not get us to heaven if we are on the wrong road. Our hearts ache for the thousands who have lost their lives in the recent hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes. You can be sure that the priorities of the survivors are far different this week than they were before the tragic events. What if it had been us in one of those disasters? Would we have been satisfied that we had been pursuing the right things all along? Would we have been prepared both physically and spiritually? So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:12 KJV Real success comes when we are doing what the Lord has planned for us. What is really important to us? Is our 'to do' list filled with meaningful activities or are we just busy with non-essentials? What are we doing that will make a difference in our life or in the lives of our loved ones? A speaker at a management seminar advised us to make a list of the top ten tasks we need to do, and then prioritize them. Then he told us an interesting fact. If we do the top three we will have accomplished 80% of what needs to be done. May we learn the difference between just being busy and being occupied with the right things. It is not enough to do the job right, but to do the right job. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Psalms 1:6 Trying to do the 'right job', Pastor Bob and Marion Rieth
