Lisa began volunteering at several Casper museums to pursue her academic passions and to become more involved in the community. She has volunteered at the Tate Geological Museum, the Audubon Center at Garden Creek, Fort Caspar Museum, The  Science Zone, and Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum. She earned an A.A. in Museum and Gallery Studies in 2010 at Casper College. Lisa is presently employed at The Nicolaysen Art Museum where her first position was the Director of Security and Facilities. Lisa currently works with the Registrar and Curator as the Assistant to Exhibitions and Collections. She is also working part time in Development assisting the Executive Director of the museum. Lisa is the current chair of the Fort Casper Museum Board, Vice-President of the Murie Audubon Board, and the CWAM Co-op Chair. Lisa attended her first CWAM conference several years ago as a student scholarship recipient and was appointed as the CO-OP Chair two years ago. Lisa has found her professional calling in life and is delighted to be working as a museum professional in a field that she loves. Lisa is driven and passionate about this profession, learning, and the ongoing discourse that leads to creative ideas and actions. If elected, Lisa promises to fulfill her position and its duties to the best of her capabilities and to help CWAM achieve its mission and goals.

As a professional librarian since 2001 and a certified archivist since 2007, I have worn several hats and performed a variety of responsibilities, both in libraries and in museums. I've curated and managed varied collections through the years and experienced some of the challenges inherent to working with both government and non-profit (and combinations of the two!) cultural institutions, as well as enjoyed some time working with a few colleges and universities.

 

My library career began at the College of Charleston, working part-time at their Marine Resources Library on James Island. This introduction to the library field ignited my interest in working with special libraries and after a period of time with the Charleston County Public Library and The Citadel, I moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to become Curator of Archives and Librarian at the Gilcrease Museum. Here I managed a significant collection of rare books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, etc., as well as a research library. Although I dearly loved my collections and the museum, I decided to move on when the institution changed hands and for the last two and a half years I have been Head Librarian and Archivist at Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado. Here I have new challenges that include managing a circulating library, creating an archive, and bringing recognition to this regional treasure and its unique collections.

 

My career has given me the opportunity to learn and gain experience in many aspects of library and museum work-management, exhibition, research, publishing, budgets (or lack thereof), fundraising, technology, and so much more. I'd enjoy the opportunity to become more involved with museums in both Colorado and Wyoming and to be able to contribute some of the knowledge and understanding I've gained through the years--as well as learn from my new colleagues here out west.

While I have loved museums and cultural sites since I was a little girl visiting Mesa Verde and the Healy House, I never thought of working in museums as a job until college. I enrolled in business and accounting classes but an internship in museum education at Wake Forest University in North Carolina soon interested me in a museum career. In June, I will be graduating with a Master of Arts in Anthropology and Museum Studies from the University of Denver. During my education, I have worked in collections at the Museo de las Americas in Denver, as curatorial and membership assistant at the National Mining Museum in Leadville, and currently work as a museum assistant at the Frisco Historic Park. I am fascinated by the history of the West and would be proud to assist CWAM as a member of the board.

I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder Museum and Field Studies Master's Program in 2005, changing careers after almost two decades teaching English as a Second Language in various locations in the United States and in Mexico. My focus was collections management and my cognate was southwest archaeology. I began working at History Colorado in 2007, where I am the NAGPRA Liaison. I coordinate the agency's NAGPRA compliance, with a team from the Collections and Library Division, the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, and the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs. My job responsibilities were recently expanded as we moved into our new building. I have been working with staff to unpack and organize the archaeology and ethnographic collections and am part of the team that is developing the second phase exhibit entitled Living West. I am interested in serving on the CWAM board. It is evident to me that the museum community in the Colorado/Wyoming region is full of talented, dynamic people and I would like to work with more of them. The more we work together, the more successful our respective institutions become. I believe my varied work experiences would enable me to contribute to the organization.
