 Your newsletter editor
Welcome to the first Electronic Newsletter of the Colorado-Wyoming Association of Museums. More details will be given for this change in format under the CWAM is Going Green section, but the reasons for this change are multifold. We want to be able to provide quick and environmentally sound information to our 500-plus members, and printing costs for the newsletter are going through the roof. Most of you have Internet access, and will be able to read this from your screen or print it out. Those of you without Internet will be mailed a printed version. This saves CWAM hundreds annually from unnecessary printing and mailing costs, saves us trees, and a large number of headaches. That money, which comes directly from your dues, will be put instead into making CWAM information more easily available on our web site, and allows us to explore and build our presence on the Web. So look for exciting changes to the web sites as well. Those are, as always, at www.coloradomuseums.org and www.wyomingmuseums.org.
A few formatting and content changes are part-and-parcel of your new newsletter. We're taking out calendar events for member museums and job openings. Information of this sort changes quickly. We will instead be offering some member institution information on the web site. It will be updated regularly and keep everyone informed.
We are excited about our new Newsletter format, and hope you will be too. But this is our first try at an e-newsletter, so be sure to let us know what you think of it, any improvements we could use. Contact information is below.

CWAM Looking Towards the Future
by Maria Sanchez-Kennedy
CWAM Board  Chair

The Colorado Wyoming Association of Museums (CWAM) Board of Directors met in Laramie, Wyoming on November 2nd and 3rd for a board retreat to discuss the mission, goals and future of the organization. The CWAM board is committed to ensuring that the organization is a member-driven organization that will encourage and assist its members with the programs and resources needed to promote excellence in our museums. The Board outlined strategies and initiatives to implement in 2008 that will help improve the programs and resources of CWAM and better meet the needs of our members while reaching out to those outside of the CWAM membership. CWAM would like to facilitate more dialogue with members and non-members to make sure that CWAM programs continue to expand and remain relevant to our members in the next few years and beyond.

One of the initiatives that came out of the retreat is to update the CWAM website and newsletter to better enhance and promote Colorado and Wyoming Museums. The CWAM Marketing Committee will be working on a holistic marketing plan that outlines the changes to CWAM publications and Website that will be more effective and serve a wider audience while saving organizational resources. The CWAM board is also going to be making changes to improve the CWAM Annual Meeting and make registration easier and provide greater professional development opportunities to museum professionals at all levels. I look forward to the changes and initiatives that the CWAM board is setting forth to implement in 2008. The CWAM board would like to hear from you, CWAM members on what you would like to see from CWAM programs in the future. I can be reached at 719-564-9086 or send me an e-mail at maria.sanchez@cfisteel.org if you would like to share some ideas on how CWAM can better promote excellence in our museums.

Unlike Al Gore, who is given a lot of credit for environmental awareness but still owns five houses and a private jet, we at CWAM are serious about lowering our carbon footprint, and this is the way we plan to do it.

Nominating News
by John Steinle

After much deliberation, CWAM decided to nominate Crest toothpaste due to its endorsement by three out of four dentists. The fourth dentist was not available for comment. Oprah Winfrey has also endorsed Crest. It's been a busy month for her.
