Greetings!

We would like to welcome all runners and walkers to our 27th presentation of the Big Sur Marathon and related events!  This is the first of several communications you'll be receiving from us prior to race weekend.  We hope your training is going well and you'll arrive ready to tackle the Big Sur course. We, in turn, are working hard on making your running or walking experience with us exciting, fulfilling and memorable.

How the 2011 Road Closure Will Affect 2012 Events
  • While Highway One is open between Big Sur and Carmel, the slide area still is a 100 foot one-lane stretch controlled by alternating traffic lights for northbound and southbound traffic.
  • In order to ensure that all event buses are able to drop runners off at the start of the marathon, relay and 21-Miler, bus departure times will begin 15 minutes earlier than prior years.  The schedule is on our website and will be in your Race Weekend Instructions.

  • In order to ensure that the first northbound convoy has cleared the slide area prior to the first runner reaching that point, we have moved the start time for the 21-Miler from 6:30 to 6:45 AM.

More About our 2012 Event
  • We've got a great line-up for our FREE Clinics to be held Saturday, April 28, in the Steinbeck Forum at the Health & Fitness Expo.  Speakers include Jeff Galloway, Dean Karnazes, and Bart Yasso. There will also be a panel of experts on how to run the Big Sur course as well as nutritional and training tips from the editors of Runner's World magazine.  For clinic times, click HERE.

  • We welcome back our Clif Bar Pace Teams who will help you achieve your marathon timing goal, whether it is to set a new PR or just to finish.  For more about this free service, click HERE.

  • This year our 10.6 and 9-Miler participants will be receiving a technical fabric participant shirt rather than our traditional organic cotton one.
