The Big Sur International Marathon
Keeping in Touch for 2011
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings!
The past three weeks have been a bit crazy as our staff and volunteer Board have been working non-stop to create the 2011 out and back course along with a new transportation plan, new relay, music and aid station locations, and a staging area at the start to accomodate multiple events.  But finally, our Race Weekend Instructions are ready.  Please take the time to read these carefully, there are specific instructions for each event, along with bus departure times and locations, new aid station locations, updated Relay information and general information on packet pick-up and other weekend activities.
This past Saturday, seven of our Board and staff members ran the new out and back course and we would like to congratulate them on their dedication and love for our marathon.  They all found the new course to be scenic and challenging, and hope that you will enjoy it as much as they did.
Course Information Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • On Sunday, April 10th, the new 2011 course was officially certified and will be a Boston qualifier.
  • While all this is covered in the Race Weekend Instructions (click HERE to download), probably the most important things to note are:
    a.  The 10.6-Miler will start an hour earlier than normal, at 6:30 AM and there will be no sweats service for this event
    b.  All participants must still be bused to the start of their event (except the 5K). No exceptions!
    c.  The start will be done in waves. The first three waves are for the marathon, the next one for the 21-Milers and 9-Miler runners, and the last one for the 9-Miler walkers
  • While we had hoped a temporary road would be in place to at least allow you to visit Big Sur, it doesn't appear that this will be the case. There are two crossing daily, on foot, at 7 AM and 4 PM.  For more information on possible ways to visit Big Sur during race weekend, stop by our Info Booth at the Expo.

While we've done our best to convince you of the scenic beauty of this out and back course, the pictures here do it much better.  These were taken on April 9 when 7 staff and board members ran the new course for the annual Director's Run.
