The Big Sur International Marathon
Welcome to our 26th Presentation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
Greetings!
We would like to officially welcome all runners and walkers to our 26th Presentation! As many of you are already aware, there will be some last minute changes to three of our six Sunday events as a consequence of the collapse of a forty foot section of Highway One on March 16th, just north of Bixby Bridge. The Marathon, 21-Miler and Relay will be run on an "out and back" course which will begin at the Marathon finish at Highway One and Rio Road. The 10.6-Miler will start as usual from Rocky Point Restaurant and there will be no changes to the 5K and 9-Miler events. We will provide more details in our upcoming Race Weekend Instructions available early April and will also post notes on our Facebook page and homepage at www.bsim.org.
Our successful race in 2010 will be a hard act for us to follow, particularly in view of the road closure, but our focus remains on providing our participants with the "best running experience on the planet." We are pleased in particular to welcome Runner's World and the 275 Runner's World Challenge entrants along with our 400 amazing Boston 2 Big Sur runners.
We experienced a similar situation in 1998 when a landslide casued much of Hurricane Point to slide into the ocean. Living on the "edge of the Western World" put us at the mercy of Mother Nature and this year's heavy rainfall has taken a toll on the roadway. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support. We still promise you a challenging, memorable and scenic race along with the first-class treatment you've come to expect from our organization. Stay tuned for upcoming notifications and updates and we look forward to seeing all of you on May 1. The Big Sur Board & Staff |
