The Big Sur International Marathon
March 2010 Update

Greetings!

The Board of Directors and Staff of the Big Sur International Marathon welcome all runners and walkers to our 25th Presentation to be held April 25, 2010.  This is a very special year for all of us and we hope to make it memorable for you as well.  We will be sending out several more of these emails in the next few weeks prior to the main event.  We hope your training continues to go well as we begin our countdown to the big day in just under four weeks.

 
With race day only a month away, here are some things you need to know

  • Race Weekend Instructions will be available online at www.bsim.org on March 31.  Look for the link on the homepage or in the "Spotlight" section.  They contain all the details you need to know about buses, packet pickup, post event shuttles and the weekend schedule.  Please take the time to read them thoroughly.  If you still have questions take a look at the FAQ section on our website.
  • Postcards have been mailed to all registered individuals and relay team captains. This card shows your bib number and we are asking you to bring it to the Expo for bib and packet pick-up.  Let us know if you don't receive it, we will send a replacement.
  • If you are unable to participate this year, be sure to read the cancellation policy (located under Event Information - Marathon) on the website.  Remember, Big Sur is a 501(c)3 non-profit; if you can't participate you can take the amount of your entry fee as a charitable donation on your income tax return.  Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another person.
  • If you are unable to pick up your bib, chip and race packet at the Expo, you can designate a friend to do so for you.  Give them a letter of authorization and photocopy of your driver's license or other photo ID along with your bib postcard and they can pick up for you.  People who claimed the military discount will need to show their Active Military ID.
  • April 15 is the last day of pre-registration for the 5K, 3K and Relay team members. There will be race weekend registration for these events at the Expo.  All other events are SOLD OUT.
  • Boston 2 Big Sur participants...good luck at Boston! Be sure to bring proof of your finish to pick up your Big Sur Marathon bib.  Print out a copy of the online results and bring to packet pick-up. 
Be a VIP at the Big Sur Marathon

How would you like to be a VIP for the Big Sur Marathon weekend?  You'll receive red carpet treatment including:

  • An invitation to our Sponsor/VIP reception on Friday evening
  • Entrance to our race day Hospitality Tent
  • Special Big Sur gifts and merchandise
  • Your name announce as a VIP on our PA system at the race finish.

All you need to do is take our Sponsor Trivia Quiz online.  The quiz is easy and only requires a quick trip to each sponsor's website.  All contestants who answer the questions corrrectly will then be entered into a drawing for our VIP Weekend Package.  TWO special winners will be chosen.

  • Mark your calendar! The Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay will open for registration on April 1st at www.bigsurhalfmarathon.org. This gently rolling scenic course features stunning ocean views coupled with a great vacation weekend on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.
  • An Art Show featuring 25 years of Big Sur memorabilia, photos, paintings and more will be on display in the Monterey Conference Center on the 2nd floor from April 2 through May 10.
  • We will be offering a 2010 Hurricane Point Survivor shirt for sale at the Expo! It will be a long sleeve technical fabric ASICS shirt.
  • If you haven't already done so, check out our new marathon course video starring Grizzled Vet and Board member Tom Rolander by clicking HERE.
  • If you didn't sign up for the Pasta Party yet, tickets will be available at the Expo for $20 each.  There are two seatings, one at 4:30 and one at 5:30 on Saturday, April 24th in the Grand Ballroom of the Monterey Marriott.
