The Big Sur International Marathon
Welcome to the 23rd Presentation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings!
The Board of Directors and Staff of the Big Sur International Marathon welcome all runners and
walkers to our 23rd Presentation to be held April 27, 2008.  Thank you for choosing Big Sur as
your race destination; we think you'll enjoy your time spent on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula.  Be sure to check out our Visitor's Guide at www.bsim.org for a listing of things to do and see.
With race day only two months away, here are some things you need to know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Last Minute Instructions will be available online at www.bsim.org at the end of March and a hard copy will also be mailed to all registrants prior to that date.  The LMI will contain all the details you need to know about buses, packet pickup, post event shuttles and the weekend schedule.
  • Please take a minute to confirm your registration prior to race weekend.  If there is a problem, or your name is missing, it is easier for all of us to solve the issue NOW rather than late Saturday afternoon of race weekend.  To confirm, go to www.bsim.org and click on "Confirm Entry" in the Spotlight section in the upper right side of the home page.  Once on the confirmation page, enter LAST NAME ONLY and your information will pop up.  Be sure to note your bib number.  If there is an error, or your name is missing, email sally@bsim.org or call 831.625.6226.
  • If you are unable to participate this year, be sure to read the cancellation policy on the website.  Remember, Big Sur is a 501(c)3 non-profit; if you can't participate you can take the amount of your entry fee as a charitable donation on your income tax return.  Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another person.
  • If you are unable to pick up your bib, chip and race packet at the Expo, you can designate a friend to do so for you.  Give them a letter of authorization and photocopy of your driver's license  or other photo ID and they can pick up for you.  People who claimed the military discount will need to show their Active Military ID.
  • Relay Teams, be sure to have all your members registered prior to 4/15 to avoid that late processing fee!  Team Captains, if you plan to run on the team you created you will need to add yourself as a member; creating a team does not automatically make you a member.  If you need a member removed, email the team name and name of the person to be removed to sally@bsim.org.  You'll be able to add the replacement member online after that.
  • We have some great race weekend clinics lined up!  Jeff Galloway will be speaking, along with Runner's World's Bart Yasso and the Ultra Running legend, Dean Karnazes.  Times will be posted on the Expo page of the website and at the Expo itself.  Bart Yasso will also be at the Runner's World booth selling autographed copies of his new book, My Life on the Run.
  • We will once again be offering a Hurricane Point Survivor shirt for sale at the Expo.  The shirt is an ASICS technical fabric shirt in black, both in short sleeve and long sleeve versions.
  • If you didn't sign up for the Pasta Party at the time of registration, tickets will be available for sale at the Expo for $20.  There are two sittings, one at 4:30 and one at 5:30 on Saturday, April 26th in the Grand Ballroom of the Monterey Marriott.
