New Medco Online Tools Available
Help is here for State Health Plan members who want to empower themselves by lowering their health risks and reducing the possibility of health care gaps. Medco's new "safety net" online tool is available at no cost to send alerts when medication is running low or a refill is missed. The online tool updates members about medication safety and adherence risks, and provides access to a Medco specialist pharmacist 24/7. For convenience, the safety net tool can also print and share information with a physician. This online tool works whether the medication is purchased via mail or at a retail pharmacy.
Another new feature is the Rx Over-the-Counter Drug Interaction Checker, which looks for potentially dangerous interactions between over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs.
Registering with Medco is easy. Once enrolled, members can also receive personalized alert e-mails. Click here to complete your one-time registration or access your medco.com® account. You will need your prescription ID card and a recent prescription number. For questions, contact Medco Customer Service at 1-800-336-5933. |
| Saving with OTC Allergy Medications |

Everyone is looking for ways to save money. One option for allergy sufferers is with generic or over-the- counter (OTC) antihistamines. Many State Health Plan members use allergy medications, presenting an excellent opportunity for cost savings. Recently, all forms and prescription strengths of Allegra® (fexofenadine) and Allegra-D® (fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine) became available OTC, further expanding the number of allergy medications offered.
OTC non-sedating antihistamines are safe and effective medications that relieve allergy symptoms, including itchy eyes, sneezing and runny nose, without causing drowsiness and without the need for a prescription. Click here to find out more about saving with OTC allergy medications. |

Generic equivalents for a variety of drug products are now available. The generic products are available at the lowest copayment level, $10 for a 30-day supply. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires generic drugs to have the same quality, strength, purity and stability as brand name counterparts. You can talk to your provider to see if a generic medication is appropriate for you. Once a generic is available for a brand name medication, and you choose the brand product, you will be responsible for a $10 copay plus the difference in cost between the brand and generic medication.
