Coverage for Dependents Ages 19 to 26

As a reminder, the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act provision allowing dependents up to age 26 to be added to the State Health Plan - regardless of student or marital status -  goes into effect July 1, 2011. House Bill 1707 was signed into law June 7, 2010. It allows dependents who were enrolled in the Plan on May 1, 2010, to remain on the Plan through the end of the month following the dependent child's 26th birthday, regardless of the dependent child's status as a full-time student.  The dependent child must not be eligible for other employer-sponsored health benefit coverage.  In order to be currently enrolled on the Plan, a dependent child must be unmarried.  A dependent child between 19 and 26, who currently is not enrolled and becomes a full-time student, can be added to the Plan within 30 days of becoming a full-time student.
