Dependent Eligibility Verification
 The State Health Plan will begin a Dependent Eligibility Verification at the end of July 2010. Secova, an HR and Health Benefits Services company, will administer the Dependent Eligibility Verification process on the State Health Plan's behalf. Webinars are scheduled daily between July 22 - July 29 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Health Benefits Representatives. Secova will begin mailing Verification Packets on July 30 in increments of 10,000 per day to all members who have dependents covered under the Plan. The mailings will be grouped by agency. The Verification Packet will include the information the State Health Plan has on file for a member's covered dependents and the required documentation that must be provided to confirm dependent eligibility. Members will be asked to submit the appropriate documentation to verify a dependent's eligibility to Secova by October 15. The package will include a postage paid return envelope and Secova's toll-free number that members can call regarding the eligibility verification. Senate Bill 1392 (S.L. 2010-120) - Court-Ordered Guardianships On July 20, 2010, Senate Bill 1392 was signed by the Governorallowing state employees and retirees to enroll children for whom they are court-appointed guardians. The employee / retiree must be legally responsible for the child's support and maintenance. Previously, these children were not eligible to be enrolled on the State Health Plan. This act is effective July 1, 2010. PLEASE NOTE: The State Health Plan will allow employees / retirees to enroll dependents for whom they have court-ordered custody until August 31, 2010, without a qualifying event. Copies of the court documents, signed by a judge and verifying the legal custody of the child, will be required to be sent to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to enroll a dependent for whom an employee / retiree has court-appointed guardianship. |

Reminder HBR Training
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC), on behalf of the State Health Plan, has scheduled a three-day training session August 10, 11 & 12, 2010. The training is recommended for, but not limited to, Health Benefits Representatives (HBRs) and billing contacts who have been in their positions for less than two years. If you missed the July 23 deadline to register to attend, you can still register by completing the registration form and returning it ASAP. Click here for more information. |
