Summer is in Bloom!

We have been very busy this past few weeks at the lodge.  We have been making some improvements that we certainly hope you will enjoy.  First, we built a nice path to the upper parcel of land behind the lodge.  There are some picnic tables up there and some adult swings that we hope guests will use to enjoy a lovely alpenglow show.  Over the coming months, we intend to add some electricity, lights, and additional seating.  Stay tuned for the latest.

We have also been working hard planting some new flowers around the lodge and making sure they continue to bloom so that you will be able to enjoy them this summer should we get to see you.

Painting is a never ending task here and the maintenance crew has been hard at work ensuring the lodge has great curb appeal and is inviting for all who stay.

Thrill Seekers!

Climbing KidYou know who you are.  You are not content to merely gaze up at our awe inspiring peaks, you want to conquer them!  San Juan Mountain Guides has you covered.  Family Adventure Days are available where you can learn to rock climb and see terrain that most will never see.  If you would rather seek your thrills on the water, Rigs Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking offer trips through some of the most spectacular canyons in Colorado.

The adventure is fantastic and gets the adrenaline rushing in both kids and adults. 

For those of you lucky enough to come down during the 4th of July celebration, San Juan Mountain Guides will offer zip line rides across the gorge from 11:30am - 1:30 pm for just $10/person.  Give it a try as it is a lot of fun!
Create a Masterpiece

Art PalleteThe Painting Marmot Art School offers hour and a half long classes for your children during the summer.  This could be just the ticket for some Mom and Dad alone time.  Go for a short hike, shop, or come back to the hotel for a much needed soak in our marvelous hot tubs.

Ouray Pool

You just couldn't call your trip to Ouray complete without visiting some of our most famous attractions.  The Ouray Hot Springs Pool has been in our community for more than 50 years.   It boasts a water slide and diving board for play, lap lanes for burning off some energy, and a special section just for soaking.  Another can't miss is of course, Box Canyon Falls.  Spilling thousands of gallons of water every minute, children and adults will marvel at the wonder of Mother Nature standing beside, or below, this 285 foot waterfall.

Mine Tour
Just a few miles from our little oasis, a glimpse at Ouray's gold mining days await at the Bachelor Syracuse Mine Tour.  Ever wondered what it might be like to go into a real gold mine?  Want to try your luck at panning for gold?  Feel that gold rush fever that lured miners to our beautiful mountains over 100 years ago.  While you are there, be sure to take part in a very scenic horseback ride at the Bach'lers Stable led by a real cowboy.

Did you know?

The Ouray County Museum has been called one of the best small museums in the country by the Smithsonian.  It has great exhibits and is now open for the season.  As a way to lure you, just just show your key and the Box Canyon Lodge will pay for two admissions!  We will offer you these admissions all summer long. Enjoy your visit and tell them we sent you!

Calling All Muscians!
The Backstreet Bagel & Deli on Main Street has an open mic / jam session on the first Sunday of each month for the summer from 3pm to 7pm.  Bring your instruments and take your turn performing with others.  In April you can jam on the 27th; in May, you can jam on May 4th.  See ya there!!!!!

Enjoy two kids cones from Ouray Candy per room per day.  Just show your room key and Amy and her crew will bill us for the delicious dessert.  Ouray Candy is located in Ouray on the corner of 5th Avenue & Main Street.  It is a delicious end to a fabulous day.
