Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays. We are very thankful for all the kind words and votes of encouragement that we have received as we finish our first six months at the lodge and we hope that we find you and your families happy and in good health. As with every November, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. Some hiking trails are still accessible, including many parts of the new Ouray perimeter trail. It is a fantastic trail with many challenging spots and fantastic views. Thanks to the Ouray Trail Group for all their efforts to make Ouray such a great outdoor paradise. We have been working hard to get things in ship shape before winter completely settles in. We have started putting in new insulation and the work on the new tubs should start next week. In December, we are going to be implementing a new reservation system. We think that we will be able to deliver superior service to our guests with this new system as our front office staff will be more efficient once we work out all the kinks. Happy Thanksgiving! We hope that we will see you soon!
Warm regards, Karen & Rich Avery

Employee Corner
Our front office staff is second to none in warmth and good humor. These ladies just love the people that frequent the lodge and it shows. Here are some small tidbits about the great folks that greet you when you come to the lobby!
Terry (on the right) is the proud mother of a one thousand pound three year old. Her name is Pi. And, Pi is a great big horse, part quarter horse, part thoroughbred! Terry tends to her regularly, but as with all toddlers, she is a handful.
Carol (on the left) lives and works in Ouray and she knows just about every hiking trail near town. She is an avid outdoor person and loves to camp, hike, and snowshoe. Just ask her for the details on her favorite wintertime activity: extreme snowshoeing.
Cindie (not pictured) started working here last spring. She typically works nights so that during the day, she can pursue her passions: writing, drawing and jewelry making. You can see her collection at either the Ouray Gallery when you are in town or you can see it online.
JoAnne (Center) is our newest staff member. She is an accomplished mountaineer. She has climbed all of Colorado's 54 14er's (Mountains over 14,000 feet) and is currently working on the all of the named 13er's in the state. There are nearly 600 of these and she has bagged nearly half. The front office staff sets up reservations, greet you when you arrive, assist you while in Ouray and ensure you have a pleasurable stay while at the Box Canyon Lodge. |

Learn to Ice Climb
If you have ever felt the need to try something out of the ordinary, then, perhaps you should try the basic ice climbing course offered by the San Juan Mountain Guides. This outfit offers a very basic two day introduction into ice climbing and the course cost includes all the necessary equipment (ok, you bring the outer wear like coats and gloves). The instruction takes place at the Ouray Ice Park which is just a hop skip and a jump away from the Box Canyon Lodge. After the strenuous day of ice climbing, just imagine how nice those natural mineral springs will feel!
