Okay. The summer may be over in the northern hemisphere, but that doesn't mean we can't all bring a little sunshine into our lives.

If you have a valuable piece of innovation research that you think needs more visibility, please let me know. I just signed an innovation book deal with John Wiley & Sons, and I will now be reaching out to companies to gather case studies and research for the book.

I've added lots of insights from the Optimizing Innovation conference to the blog. Blogging Innovation is still growing at a rapid pace (on pace for 300,000 pages in October). If you'd like to contribute an article on a marketing or innovation topic, and grow your visibility, please contact me.

If you enjoy our newsletter, please forward it to your colleagues.

Bill George I had the opportunity to meet Bill George at the World business Forum and later interview him. He is the author of "7 Lessons for Leading in Crisis", and a professor of management practice at Harvard Business School, where he has taught leadership since 2004. Bill George is the author of three other best-selling books, and the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic. I interviewed him about social media, the recession, offense vs. defense, leadership, and needs of the innovation workforce.

Innovation Perspectives - Engineering versus Intangible Value

Working Together
Let me start off by recommending that you watch the movie I've embedded, as it does a great job of describing how there is often an engineering solution to a problem and a marketing solution to a problem. This in part explains why there is often a tension between marketing and engineering when it comes to new product development - they see different solutions, assign value differently, and view success in divergent ways. So, please enjoy the video, and my article will continue below it:
