Welcome new Innovation Insights subscribers, and hello again to our long-time friends. If you enjoy our newsletter, please feel free forward it along.

July has been an extremely eventful month so far. I signed John Willig as my literary agent, opened up Blogging Innovation to outside authors in order to deliver increased value to subscribers, attended the Brightidea Birds of a Feather event, was invited to attend the World Business Forum, and signed on to teach a workshop at the Open Innovation Summit in Orlando, FL on December 2, 2009.

Most importantly, I want to say a public thank you this month to Ric Merrifield, Robert Brands, and Matthew E. May for their help and to all of you who support Blogging Innovation.

I hope you enjoy the content we have selected this month.
iPhone Virtual Reality

Apple iPhone
Real and virtual worlds are about to collide in a big way.

In September with the expected release of iPhone OS 3.1, some pretty amazing augmented reality applications will begin appearing for the iPhone 3GS. These applications overlay useful info on your view of the real-world using the iPhone's camera. The new crop of augmented reality applications due in September make use of common features like an internet connection and GPS, but because they also utilize a compass, only users of the new iPhone 3GS will be able to install them.

Innovation Conversations with Scott Anthony

Scott Anthony
I had the opportunity recently to interview Scott Anthony, President of Innosight and the author of "The Silver Lining" about a variety of innovation topics including: 'The Great Disruption', barriers to innovation, education, leadership, and commodity businesses.

Are You Innovating for the Past or Future?

Rearview MirrorI had the opportunity to meet and chat with local ethnographic researcher Cynthia DuVal about the role of ethnographic research in the innovation process, and she shared an insight that I thought I would share with the rest of you.

She mentioned that it is important for a good ethnographer or researcher to consider the timeline of the development process when extracting insights. Why is this important?
