Greetings!

The efforts in Hillsborough have gotten quite a bit of national play in the last few weeks.  You may have seen in the media that Bill Gates gave a speech to the American Federation of Teachers where he talks about the initiative and includes efforts in Hillsborough.  You can watch a video of his 5 minute speech or read the text of it here

The Florida Philanthropic Network recently hosted a webinar as part of their Florida Innovations series.  A recording of the webinar can be found here.  If you want the short version, i.e. to view or download the PowerPoint used in the webinar, it can be found on our Community Engagement Group page (see Quick Links).

You may recall at our last Community Engagement Group meeting we had a visitor from the Washington Post.  Nick Anderson has written his article and it can be found below in the "Staying Connected" section.  I think you'll enjoy seeing how he frames the local work into the national picture.

It's an agenda propelled in part by a flood of money from a billionaire prep-school graduate best known for his software empire: Bill Gates.  Read the article ...

Hillsborough schools pick university to measure each teacher's value

Some Hillsborough County teachers make a big difference for their students. Others, not so much.  District officials say they have always struggled to tell the two groups apart. Which teachers hit home runs and boost student growth, and which ones strike out?   Read the article ...
