Just a Dollar Campaign |
For the third year, Amscot Financial has shown their support for education by running their unique "Just a Dollar" fundraising campaign. As school starts, for the month of August Amscot offers individual customers the opportunity to donate $1 at a time for their local schools. Through this effort, this year individual customers contributed $70,947. Combined with Amscot's match of $10,000, a total of $80,947 will be distributed to local education foundations throughout Amscot's service area. More than $20,000 of that will come to Hillsborough County to support literacy and scholarship programs. The Hillsborough Reads program is one of the programs benefiting locally. Ian MacKechnie, founder and CEO of Amscot, said: "We are extremely pleased with the response by our customers. We believe it reflects the importance of education in their lives. They know how vital education is and they've chosen this gesture to help strengthen education in their local community." We couldn't have put it better and truly appreciate the community spirit and generosity of Amscot and its customers! Amscot - You're OK with Us! |

Note From The President
We're entering the 13th year of our early literacy program, Hillsborough Reads. Funded partially by a Volunteer Florida Americorps grant and the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, this is a very successful one-to-one tutoring program for Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The reading advancements of students who participate in this program are dramatic - read the complete report on Hillsborough Reads and the results on line. These early years are critical to a student's future success in school - as the saying goes, they need to "learn to read so they can read to learn" as they continue into the higher grades. Through the generosity of private donors, we were able to grow the program last year from 7 to 12 elementary schools. This means more struggling readers in more classes were able to advance their reading skills. This was only possible due to the foresight of supporters, the cooperation of school personnel, and the hard work of volunteer tutors. The benefits to the students are measurable and apparent. We look forward to serving more students with this very effective program. |
Bucs Annual School Supply Drive
What do the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Hillsborough Education Foundation have in common? Both want fans to show their spirit at the Bucs vs. Green Bay Packers game on September 28th, by bringing schools supplies to donate to the Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools program. This is the 5th year the Hillsborough Education Foundation, the Glazer Family Foundation and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have teamed up to help at-risk students, their teachers and schools to score a touchdown, by providing them with the "equipment" needed. Donations will be collected at gates: A,B,C,D, Club East and Club West. |
Thank You For Helping 'Stuff The Bus'
Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools has enjoyed an exciting summer of product donations from organizations throughout the county. More than 80 businesses, churches and civic groups held supply drives to stock our "teacher store" with back-to-school basics for the highest-need students of the Hillsborough County Public Schools. Our store is nicely stocked and our warehouse is full with backpacks, pencils, paper, glue, erasers and scissors, to help provide a great start to the 2008-2009 school year. We loved the creativity in the supply drives. A chiropractor performed complimentary adjustments to patients who brought in school supplies. One corporation had a competition between their branches, which netted the program 400 stuffed backpacks!
Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools would like to thank the many generous donors who bought a little extra, or let us use their business, clubhouse or church as a collection site. Every donation is significant to the teachers and students who are served by the Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools program. The students and teachers will be using all this - so our need continues - contact us if you'd like to do a supply drive. | |

Honorary Principal For A Day
What do Corporate Leaders and School Principals have in common? Many of our community executives will find out the answer to that question when they 'pair up' with a local school principal to serve as an 'Honorary Principal' for the morning at their school. Providing a unique opportunity to see first-hand the many rewarding experiences and challenges that a principal encounters each day while handling a large and diverse staff and student population, the participants will spend the morning visiting classrooms and talking with students, teachers, parents and school staff. Principals and their 'honorary principal' will then gather at area luncheons for a de-briefing to reflect and share their ideas and thoughts learned during the morning session. A great opportunity is available as an 'Exclusive Sponsor' for each of the area luncheons. To learn more about this unique sponsorship opportunity, click here! |
