Note From The President

Forces for Good by Crutchfield & Grant profiles 12 charities that they feel exemplify the high impact that can be made by a non-profit organization through its leveraging of resources.  The book discusses six areas that each of these charities excels in including obtaining support through volunteerism. The organizations ongoing efforts "build and sustain strong communities to help them achieve their larger goals".  While we certainly wouldn't put ourselves in the same league as these 12 superstars, the upcoming week of April 27-May 3, 2008, National Volunteer Week, provides an opportunity to recognize the importance our volunteers and their efforts have in making our programs so successful.

We'd like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank the literally hundreds of volunteers who help us make our mission a reality.  Serving the students, teachers and schools of the 8th largest school district in the nation, with the variety of programs the Foundation offers, is way beyond the capabilities of what any paid staff can do.

We are blessed with parents, teachers, administrators and community members who give their time and expertise by participating on our board, sitting on various committees, mentoring scholarship recipients, tutoring our young readers, or helping at the Teaching Tools resource store.

You're making a difference in our public schools and we thank you!

Going Green

The commitment to help keep our environment and community clean drives the "Going Green" program at our Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools program. Through our partnership with businesses and the community, Teaching Tools recycles for reuse all types of products and supplies to teachers and students in many of our low-income schools. The recycling efforts help save the County thousands of dollars each year by reducing the amount of waste!

You can participate in the "Going Green" program by educating someone you know about Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools and informing them that we are "Going Green".  Whether they're relocating, changing jobs, closing shop or just cleaning up; don't let them throw that stuff away; direct them to donate those excess supplies and products to our Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools program. Our students, teachers, schools and community will benefit from these wonderful gifts while helping to keep our community cleaner!  Just contact Emma Van Degna at (813) 740-7651 to schedule your donation today!

Excellence In Education Extends Beyond The Classroom

The Morganti Group and Wilder Architecture celebrated their third year hosting this wonderful tournament with proceeds benefiting the Foundation. A record sell-out crowd of anglers and captains prepared for the tournament by enjoying a night of food, spirits and stories served up at Rick's on the River. The next morning our tournament participants boarded 40 boats and departed from the Westshore Yacht Club to enjoy a fun-filled day in the sun.

The biggest catch of the day was the more than $130,000 raised to support the Foundation's various programs including Teaching Tools for Hillsborough Schools, Classroom & School Grants, Student Scholarships, Excellence in Education and much more.   Many thanks to our sponsors and participants for your part in making this year's tournament an overwhelming success!

Each year the boats are filling up quicker so to be sure to get in on the fun by making sure you register early for next year's "Hooked on Education" Fishing Tournament!
